(Sv) När Jesus ber sin oerhört intima bön till sin Fader i himlen – Han är ”Du” med Gud! – ber Han liksom i förbifarten: ”Du har gett honom makt över alla människor, för att han ska ge evigt liv åt alla dem som du har gett honom.” (Joh 17:2) Den makt Jesus nämner i sin bön är inte makt/hierarki utan mer makt/förmåga.
Det eviga livet är inte ett annat liv än det vi lever, men det har en speciell kvalité: det eviga. Det eviga är en annan dimension än det vanliga, det materiella. En andlig dimension kopplad till vårt liv här och nu – i vilken Gud finns med oss för evigt.
När du och jag tagit emot det eviga livet som gåva blir vi också bärare av det. Och även vi kan ge det vidare till andra – så som Jesus nämner att Han har fått en sådan förmåga. När nu kyrkan – Kristi kropp – är i Jesus blir det också sant: ”Du har gett henne makt över alla människor, för att hon ska ge evigt liv åt alla dem som du har gett henne”.
Så som män och kvinnor har fått förmågan att ge livet vidare till nya generationer rent fysiskt/biologiskt – så har vi även fått förmågan att ge det andliga/själsliga livet vidare. Och vi kan göra det med dem som Gud Fader ”har gett oss”. Låt oss resa oss och anta utmaningen!
(En) When Jesus is praying his super intimate prayer to the Father in Heaven – He is talking to God as ”You” – then he prays: ”…you have given him authority over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him.” (Joh 17:2) The authority Jesus mentions here means ”ability”. He is able. And he has made us able.
The eternal life is not just any kind of life, but it has a certain quality: the eternal. The eternal is another dimension than the mundane, ordinary, material. It is a new spiritual dimension connected to our life here and now – in which God is with us for ever.
When you and I have received eternal life as a gift we also become carriers of it. And we can give it to others – just as Jesus mentions that he has been given such an ability. Now when the church – the Body of Christ – is in Jesus it is also true: ”You have given her authority over all flesh (humans), that she should give eternal life to as many as you have given her”.
Just as men and women has been given the ability to give life to new generations in a physical/biological sense – we also have been given the ability to give the spiritual life to new generations. We can do it with those that God the Father ”has given us”. Let us rise and accept the challenge!
